Serving in a combat zone or stationed overseas? Your dates are different. Combat zone service suspends filing and payment deadlines until 180 days after you leave the zone, and members stationed outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico get an automatic extension to June 15 under Treas. Reg. §1.6081-5. Ask before you assume April 15 applies to you.

What we do

Four services. Nothing you didn't ask for.

Start with a return and add bookkeeping or planning when it helps. You can stop anywhere — nothing here funnels you into something else.

01

Tax preparation

Federal, state, and local returns prepared, reviewed, and e-filed. You approve before anything is transmitted.

  • Form 1040 with all schedules
  • Multi-state and part-year returns
  • Self-employment, rental, equity compensation, and K-1 income
  • Business returns — 1065, 1120-S, 1120
02

Tax health & strategy

A monthly tax-health check and quarterly strategy, so filing season is a formality instead of a scramble.

  • Monthly tax-health check of your books
  • Quarterly tax strategy session with a written memo
  • Annual statement preparation and your business return
  • Budgeting and quarterly estimates
03

Business startup assistance

Getting the entity right at the start is cheaper than fixing it in year three.

  • Free LLC/EIN filing guidance for clients — you file, we walk you through it
  • Entity Selection Analysis and S-corp election
  • Annual entity compliance once you're formed
04

Tax planning & support

The things that come up between filings and can't wait until next April.

  • Tax strategy, projections, and year-round planning
  • Amended and prior-year returns
  • IRS notice response and representation on returns we prepared
  • Quarterly estimated payment calculations

Military & veteran tax

Military returns have their own rules.

Military pay is not ordinary W-2 income, and generic filing workflows can overlook rules that apply only to service members. These are the issues we handle every season.

Choosing your tax residence

Since 2023, the Veterans Auto and Education Improvement Act lets a married service member and spouse elect, for any taxable year of the marriage, among three states: the member's domicile, the spouse's domicile, or the permanent duty station. States have implemented this inconsistently, so the election needs to be documented properly.

Combat zone exclusion

Enlisted members, warrant officers, and commissioned warrant officers exclude all military pay for each month they were present in a designated combat zone — any part of a month counts as the whole month. Commissioned officers are capped at the highest enlisted pay rate plus imminent danger pay. Verify Box 12 code Q on the W-2 before filing.

Deployment deadline relief

Combat zone service, and service in a contingency operation, suspends filing, payment, and collection deadlines until 180 days after the last day in the zone, plus any days that were still left in the filing period when service began. The relief generally reaches a spouse filing jointly as well.

PCS moving expenses

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act made the repeal of the moving expense deduction permanent for civilians while keeping it for active duty members moving under PCS orders — and extended it to qualifying intelligence community personnel starting in 2026.

Guard & Reserve travel

Travel that is overnight and more than 100 miles from your tax home for drill produces an above-the-line deduction on Form 2106, limited to the federal per diem and standard mileage rates. Generic workflows often skip it, and missed years can usually be amended within three years.

Combat pay and credits

Excluded combat pay doesn't count as earned income by default — but you can elect to include it when figuring the Earned Income Credit. It's all or nothing, and on a joint return each spouse elects separately. Run it both ways; the election sometimes swings the credit by thousands.

Automatic overseas extension — June 15

If on April 15 you are living outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico with your main place of business or post of duty there, or you are on military or naval duty outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico, you receive an automatic two-month extension to June 15 under Treas. Reg. §1.6081-5(a). No form is required — but you must attach a statement to the return saying which situation applies, or the extension isn’t claimed. On a joint return, either spouse qualifying covers both. It extends time to file and pay, though interest still accrues from April 15 on anything unpaid. Need longer? Form 4868 filed before June 15 takes you to October 15.

Veterans and military retirees

VA disability compensation is not taxable income. Military retired pay generally is, and any retired pay you waive to receive VA compensation is not taxed either. Combat-Related Special Compensation is tax-free while Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay is taxable, so the two are easy to confuse. Separation and severance pay have their own rules, and states treat military retirement pay differently. Starting a business after service? Entity choice and estimated taxes are where first-year surprises come from.

We don’t prepare, present, or prosecute VA benefit claims. Free claims help is available from VA-accredited representatives; you can search VA’s accreditation database.

Who prepares your return

One preparer. Your file, start to finish.

You won’t be handed to a seasonal hire. I prepare, review, and sign every return that leaves this practice, and I’m the person who answers when you call in July about a letter that arrived in June.

Tax Force Freedom is based in San Antonio, Texas, and works with clients remotely. It exists for people whose returns don’t fit a software interview — service members filing across two states, spouses whose residency changed with a set of orders, veterans with retirement and VA income, high earners with equity compensation, and the small businesses these families build.

Priced before we start Every rate is published. You get a firm quote on the consultation call, not an invoice afterward.
Audit protection included Individual returns from Standard up include three years of audit protection through Audit Maintenance Pro, an independent third party.
Documents stay secure Once you’re a client, a secure link will be provided for exchanging documents. We never ask you to email a Social Security number.
Reachable year round Notices, estimates, and questions don’t wait for filing season, and neither do we.
Worked with us before? A review takes thirty seconds and is the best thing you can do for a small practice.

Which plan fits? Want your books checked monthly and your Self-Employed Return handled: Essentials. Want a quarterly strategy session too: Partner. Want that conversation every month: Complete. Still unsure? Book a free consultation and we’ll tell you before you pay anything.

All plans are month to month, cancel any time before renewal. Essentials includes a Self-Employed Return (Form 1040 with Schedule C). Partner and Complete include one primary return: a Self-Employed Return, a Form 1065, or a Form 1120-S. When the included return is a 1065 or 1120-S, the owner’s personal 1040 is priced separately, as are a second entity return and a Form 1120. Additional transactions are $2.50 each and additional accounts are $39 per month. The monthly tax-health check needs books kept to a minimum standard — bank feeds connected, transactions categorized monthly, and accounts reconciled — by you, your bookkeeper, or accounting software we can recommend. Books below that standard are quoted as Bookkeeping Cleanup before a plan starts. The business portion of these fees is generally deductible; fees for personal returns and personal planning generally are not. Ask us how that applies to you.
